Grantee Spotlight: Getting Out & Staying Out

Written by Chloe Creed | February 21, 2025

At Bob Barker Company, we believe in the power of second chances. That’s why we’re proud to support Getting Out and Staying Out (GOSO), a nonprofit in New York City that helps previously incarcerated individuals successfully reenter society. Through education, job training, and mental health support, GOSO is transforming lives and fighting to reduce recidivism.

Many young men face barriers when reintegrating into their communities after incarceration. But GOSO proves that with the right support, it doesn’t have to be. They work with individuals aged 16 to 24, providing a structured reentry program that includes vocational training, employment assistance, and social services. Their holistic approach helps participants gain the skills and confidence to build a stable future. As a result, their recidivism rate is less than 15%, far below the national average.

A major part of GOSO’s success comes from its workforce development program, which connects participants with paid internships, apprenticeships, and full-time employment opportunities. By working with local businesses and organizations, GOSO ensures that these young men have access to real-world experience and financial independence. They also provide high school equivalency preparation and college readiness programs, ensuring that education remains a critical part of rehabilitation.

Beyond career support, GOSO prioritizes mental health and emotional well-being. Their team of licensed social workers provides counseling and support groups, helping participants navigate the challenges of reentry. By addressing both practical and emotional needs, GOSO creates a lasting impact on the lives of those they serve.
