Celebrating Holidays in Prison

The holidays are a time for coming together, creating memories, and finding moments of comfort. But for incarcerated individuals, the season can feel a little different. Celebrating holidays in prison isn’t just about festivities; it’s about creating moments of joy that remind everyone of what we all have in common.

• Creative Projects: From making holiday cards to crafting decorations, these activities give incarcerated individuals a way to create something meaningful. 
• Gift Programs: Small but thoughtful gifts, like books or toiletries, go a long way in spreading a little cheer. 
• Family Time: Whether it’s a special visitation day or extra time for calls, staying connected to loved ones during the holidays matters more than ever. 

Making the holidays happen in a prison isn’t easy. Budgets are tight, security is a priority, and there’s a lot to coordinate. But with creativity and collaboration, prisons can turn those challenges into meaningful opportunities that uplift everyone involved. A great example of this is our annual Angel Tree celebration, where we make the holidays brighter for children whose parents are incarcerated. The incarcerated parents select gifts for their children, and Bob Barker Team Members purchase and wrap the presents. We then host an event with games, crafts, food, and a special visit from Santa. It’s a truly heartwarming experience that shows the power of connection and compassion.
